How can I prevent DotNetNuke from sending an email to the user everytime he/she receives a message or notification?

you can't Im afraid, both are sent out automatically - we're considering adding some more granular support for mails and possibility support for aggregated mails (i.e. daily instead of each one) in a future release.

Damn.

I am building a fitness app. Each time a friends started an exercise I am pusing out a notification to the phone aswell as saving a notification saying "Friend has started an exercise".

I am using NotificationsController.Instance.SendNotification(notification, initiatingUser.PortalID, null, new List { targetUser }); to send it.

I am opened up the DotNetNuke scource solution and tried to "back track" it to see where the email is being sent. But I cant seem to find it.

A little help pointing out exactly where and in what file the email is being sent would be appreciated!

the relevant code is SendNotification in Library\Services\Social\Notifications\NotificationsControllerImpl.cs -however the problem is that this code simply creates the notifications - these show up in the users message centre, but there is a seperate function (Library\Services\Social\Messaging\Scheduler\CoreMessagingScheduler.cs) which acts as a message scheduler which picks up and sends out emails (a notification is simply a custom message)

Perhaps the easiest thing to do would be to add code to the SendNotification section that would update the messagerecipient to be marked as sent, so the scheduler will then ignore it -you can do that via a call such as this (if you get the messageid first) or by directly updating via the MessageRecipeient class

InternalMessagingController.Instance.MarkMessageAsDispatched(objMessage.MessageID, objMessage.RecipientID);
