I am having a problem with my SMTP server. Everything was working fine for about a month until this week. We have it configured to basic and have listed an SMTP Server and Port, SMTP username, and SMTP password. However, yesterday the site email stopped working and I am getting the following message when I click "Test SMTP Settings":

There has been an error trying to send the test email. The error is:
There is a problem with the configuration of your SMTP Server. Mail was not sent.

Does anyone have an idea where I should start looking to try and fix this? We have tried the problem out on three different machines - two of which say there is no error. However, none of the emails send properly from any of these sites which seems strange.

If you set up an account in a desktop email client using the same details can you send email?

If no then it indicates an account issue at the mail server.

If yes then try setting up a different smtp server in the host settings, try without authentication for testing. If this works then it indicates that the connection between the web server and original mail server is not working. One reason for this could be the mail server has identified your web server as a source of spam and is actively blocking it. At this stage I would try contacting the admin of the mail server to see what the mail server logs reveal.
