I'm creating a new website. I've read on the web about the performance degradation in DNN 6.2+ due to the social modules and how it's not suiatble for shared hosting anymore (i'm using shared hosting). I don't need the social modules so I need some advice whether to go with 6.2.1 or 6.1.5?

Regards.

Well it depends on the shared hosting "type".

It is true that 6.2x is heavier somehow. Personally i don't use any of the social modules and i find 6.2.1 a bit slower compared with 5.6x but nothing much.

We have a 100mb dedicated pool and i have disabled/removed a lot of unused modules.

Also if on a limited memory shared service, i would suggest to switch the Caching to Heavy and FILE. If the server's disk subsystem is not very slow, it will make your DNN more stable (again if memory is an issue).

Costas, please be aware that caching level and module cache provider are not dealing with same objects. Cache level determines, how long queried objects from the database are stored in memory - i.e. level is a simple time factor. Besides, caching of module output and cache duration may be specified in module settings (enable only, if content is same for ALL users). Default provider for this is file provider, i.e. output is saved in portalroot/cache folder per module in a file.
