Greeting!

I need to modify a few core modules and I was wondering if anybody has an idea how to do it but not get override in the next upgrade of DNN?

One module that I need to modify is the Messaging. I need to add another type of message and technically I see no problem, however I know that in the next upgrade my changes will be lost.

thanks,

David

Thank you for your reply Matthias!

Do you know any specifics regarding the messaging module? I can see that there is the Core Messaging module which responsible for displaying the messages and probably replying to them, and there is DotNetNuke.Modules.Messaging which doesn't appear as a directory in DesktopModule so i assume it is just assembly (though I couldn't find any reference to it).

If so do I need to modify them both? is there any link to technical information I can read about it?

Hi David,

I am not very familar with programming, but I think you should look to the blog posts, into the wiki and podcasts on this page.  The Messaging was integrated  and modified into the social features of DNN 6.2.

I can't give you any links or samples yet.

Hope you find what you look about on the resources of this site.
