Hello,

I just got my first spam message from here at dotnetnuke.com. It got me thinking about controlling the email preferences with messages as well as "find-ability" of other users.

I've heard that the DNN team is working on controlling the emails from messages - anybody know when that's getting implemented?

Also, is there any plan in place to make it so that users can exclude themselves from the public search? In other words, how can I make it so that users can't type my name in to send a message to me - unless they're my friend or something?

Thanks,

Mike

that spam came from a macro based screen scraper working against the hall of fame - we've updated the message delay to foil it (and invalidated the user) - we are also thinking of additional protection. As to the other request, we had a plan to set messages to only be allowed to friends/followers in 6.2.0 but choose to not lock it down that much to ease use- we will likely add this in a future release.

Thanks Cathal...

And to be clear, I didn't mean my post as a complaint about dotnetnuke.com... Spam users like that are a reality of most public websites. I more mentioned it because I think the case shows the need to let uses stop messages from automatically emailing them... I thought you guys were working on the ability to control that, so I thought I'd check when it was planned.

Thanks,

Mike

we're considering many things e.g. limiting number of messages a day, introducing the ability to require the user to have been validated for a period of time before sending messages, mark as spam links in mails that create notifications for administrators etc. The business guys will consider these (and others) and decide a release for them, and then devs (such as me) will implement them - at this point I dont see anything assigned to a particular release (though naturally as one of the consumers we may accelerate items if we need them on dotnetnuke.com). As ever you can record enhancements at the community voice and we will evaludate popular requests in a more timely fashion
