I have DNN6.2 with the authentication module installed on a server (win 2008 R2) that is not a member of our domain.

I would like to authenticate users against our domain and also allow plain user/password authentication.

I am having problems setting up the domain authentication.

I tried LDAP://ip address and get an error that connecting fails

I tried AD authentication with dc=domain,dc=com type entry and I get the error about object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I don't have impersonation configured.  I'm guessing I'd need to impersonate a user on the domain, but the computer isn't on the domain so I don't know how that would work.

Any ideas on how to set it up correctly?

Thanks

It's been my experience that the server has to be part of the domain for AD authentication to work. Sorry.

I don't understand that requirement.  The ldapbrowser software can browse with just the ip address and a domain user name and password.  Other portal software can do it to.

Shouldn't I be able to just give it the ip address of the AD server, the user/ password of an account that can read the AD, and the user/security info of the user who wants to log in?

I really want to be sure it won't work, because

1 the server can't be on the domain

2 if I can't authenticate to the domain then I need to find different portal software.

Thanks!

I'm not saying it can't be done just that it's been my experience that the system has to be part of the domain. Not much help I realize.

Would it be possible to install AD LDS on the DNN server.

Then DNN would query the AD LDS and AD LDS would talk to the AD server on the domain.

Is anyone doing anything like that?

Any ideas/docs on how to set it all up?
