I am upgrading our site from 4.9 to 5.4 and the upgrade message keeps on looping indicating the message below:

Upgrading DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 05.04.04

Current Database Version: 05.01.04

Upgrade Status Report

00:00:00.031 - Upgrading to Version: 05.04.04
00:00:00.312 -   Executing Script: 05.02.00.SqlDataProvider

I have been waiting for more than an hour now, getting no error messages.  Using SQL sever 2005.  Should I just revert back to our backups.

Yes, you could revert to backups and restore the files and database back to Version 4.9.

What version are you ultimately trying to upgrade to? I would recommend trying to upgrade straight to version 6.2.2, without any interim steps, rather than doing individual steps manually.

Thank you for your quick response.

I was following a recommended upgrade path I read before to ugrade from 4.9 to 5.4.  The site currently host  about 20 active portals.

I was planning to move it to 5.4 to take advantage of 5X version module/extension improvements and also possibly resolve the numerous Module Load/General Exception logs (about 20 in an hour).  A sample exception log from the event viewer below:

Do you think I would have less upgrade issues if I upgrade from 4.9 directly to 6.2.2?

Thank you.

I think from a security perspective you will be far better off upgrading to the 6.2.2 line. I also suggest that you perform this upgrade in a test environment first though, no sense in trying it in a production environment if there are issues.
