i appear to be the first person to post about the captioned configuration, and am doing so because of great difficulty installing with it. i am sure that it is not supported but it's time for dnn to catch up with the times.

i have selected sql server 2005/2008 database and have given the server name in all kinds of forms, my preferred being .\SQLExpress and ServerName\SQLExpress since that is how sql server connection properties identifies the ssms connection. needless to say neither works.

i have installed dnn 6.x on windows 7 with sql server 2012 express so i am not certain why server 2008r2 makes a different. using the same successful connection string from w7 does not help.

is it possible to install dnn 6.x with the enumerated configuration - ie database on w2008r2 with iis7.5? if so, what are the database connection parameters. i insist upon integrated security.

integrated security is a problem because dnn cannot connect with it - gives login failure although ssms does just fine. what credential is dnn passing to sql server to cause to fail login? or cannot it not find the server?

don't forget to read the sql server log files!!!! dnn 6.x is not using integrated security, contrary to its installation tool tip....it is passing in IIS Apppool\[website or pool name].....this should resolve the problem (i hope).

to clarify, dnn is not passing in the name of the logged in user - which is my understanding of integrated security.

yes, adding IIS APPPOOL\[APP POOL Name] of website to sql server database users with appropriate permissions solves the problem....

and come to think of it, i seem to remember reading this in the docs when i installed on w7....so read the manuals too
