Hello people and Sebastian,

Is it possible to upgrade DNN when you're having created portals, content in them and having enabled localization for these portals?

I was advised by Sebastian Leupold to update my DNN 6.0 to 6.02.02 in order to fix an issue with a localization (described here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/F... and here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/F... ).

I downloaded an Upgrade package DotNetNuke_Community_06.02.02_Upgrade.zip from dnn.codeplex and i'm following these (http://www.dnndaily.com/tips/itemId/3...) upgrade path instructions. Once i extracted DotNetNuke_Community_06.02.02_Upgrade.zip I saw that there is a folder "Portals\_default" which will overwrite my settings and also my portals. Do I need to copy folder "Portals\_default" to make a successful upgrade?

Thanks, DMitar

You shouldn't have any CHANGES in the portals\_default folder, so upgrading shouldn't affect you.

If you modified anything in there (default.css is the most likely thing you would have changed) then be sure to backup those changes.

If you have skins, or templates, or other things in _default, you will be fine, they won't be overwritten by the upgrade unless they have the same name as files in the upgrade package.

Yes, i have some changes in default.css, portal.css, also in DarkKnight sub folders in _default template.

If you've made changes to those files, then you should back up your changes and you'll have to make them again.

Those are what we could call "core" changes, and typically aren't recommended, due to issues like this on upgrade.

Thanks for your answers Chris,

Also, i see there's App_Data folder in the Upgrade file package. Is there need for that folder and files inside? Why it's put into the Upgrade package? The good news is that there's no mdf file in the upgrade, so no changes to the database structure in the upgrade.
