Hello,  I am sure that this is because I just dont know how to disable the feature that  "Creates a subsite for my Languages"  by adding a xx-xx path to the url!

By doing this... any sites setup and running would loose all placements in spider lists and it adds clutter to the URL.  It makes sense for people wanting to run a multinational site that serves the work geografically..But localization is not just for that purpose, it is also a service to users and has sometimes has nothing to do with GEO placement.

Therefore it must be possible to tell the system not to perform subsite speration of the url according to language.  I mean come on... this is only a database value that is injected into the url.... it is not like it involves a filestructure change and so it all logical reasoning must be able to be DISABLED!

But I dont know how, the only way to disable xx-xx injection into the URL is to disable the languages that are of least priority, then we can have a clean url.

But it is a sin to have a running sight with fine google placement be suddenly washed from the charts because I decide to add a feature called Additional Languages available.

Finally for those that will try and be cleaver... yes there is ambiguity of language on the same file resource... but it doesnt split the performance, it doesnt wash the listings and its a great service to users to keep clean urls and it doesnt demote my levels to becomming 2nd tier!

Please somebody tell me I just simply have missed activating a checkbox buried somewhere obscure :-(

did you enable "Content localization" in Host Settings and enabled and activated additional langauges in Admin > Languages menu item? This evokes a warning and cannot be undone easily. But if you just added languages, you may disable including languagae parameter in url within module settings of Admin > Languages.

Hi Sebastian.

By Default the Allow content Localization is not activated... as I can see.  So installed a language pack fro danish and in Admin>Languages allowed Dansih to be used as Default.

That means that My site default page looks like  http://mydomain/da-dk/default.aspx

if i switch languages via the flag or via the drop down selector in Admin panel it changes to

looks like http://mydomain/en-us/default.aspx

After reading your mail I then enabled "Allow Content Localization" but still the xx-xx is injected into the URL.

I did not receive any warnings as you mentioned and I can see no possiblity of controlling how to disable the xx-xx injection into the URL ?

Have i missed a step or not understanding something ?

Thanks for your effort :-)

Bill,
no, you do not need to enable "Content Localization" in Host Settings, if you don't intend to use it.
How do you intend to implement multilingual content? Be aware you need an individual url per language for SEO.

Hi Sebastian,

My need it to allow anyone logging into the system with elevated rights that activates the admin or super user panel to be able to work as that elevated user in the tools using their native language...  me an american working as super user and my clients as Page editors or Site administrators that are danish... to enjoy the compfort of working in their respective language... but it is a single language content throughout the site....

I have not used the features for users that are registered on the system "yet" but would imagine that there are then system strings that are generated by the system for fileds such as username and the like that should be translated for the user to understand what the system string is saying... but the content is still in Danish.

I simply need to find out HOW can I DISABLE the injection of the xx-xx portion of the URL when there are more than one language active ?

It is a pure functionality need of mine... and I am sure many people the world over have this need....

The other issues were just shocking that URLS would suddenly be changed... that the depth of url structuring gets deeper and that the urls get less friendly simply because we activate a second laguage. To me it seems logical that we have a possiblity to override and/or define the method emplyed.. the url structure and so on ?

I hope you can help me figure out HOW to DISABLE this URL Injection.... I have tried everything :-(

Thanks,  Bill
