People complaining that when they download file attachments from my dotnuke forum the files get RENAMED.

files that once had meaning in the name are now meaningless.

 now its

I can' find a way to stop it from doing it.

Anyone know how to prevent file renaming?

Who ever runs this forum turn on file attachments. I want to see if it renames them here too.

AFAIK this is done intendedly to avoid duplicate names - though it would be nice to re-use original name when downloading. Note: development of this module has been sunsetted, it will be replaced by a new version of Active Module soon.

I am planning on starting a forum on a new site soon. Does the sun-setting to DNN's forum module mean that I should use Active Forum module so I won't have to migrate posts. What do you recommend?

AF 5 beta/rc are still not ready for a website. A lot of problems.

Use the current forums module and wait (and hope) for the migration tool. As we all do since DNN 6.
