I am sooo frustrated!!!

I have been getting away with a pretty inexpensive hosting bill...and went with this particular hosting company because it was owned by a friend of mine. This friend was actually the one who turned me onto DNN in the first place. However, he is just a reseller for the hosting...and the hosting company does not even understand DNN at all! Performance has been getting worse and worse for all of my sites. And the excuse is always that it is DNN...and of course, they can't really help me with that.

On the plus side, it has forced me to learn a lot more about DNN itself.

Most recently, when trying to use the new stuff available with DNN, I discovered I didn't have something I needed. Turns out, I needed ASP.Net 4.0. Well, my servers only supported 3.5...so they said I had to move all my stuff to new servers. I did. It took 72+ hours!

Now my sites are taking so long to load, that they are timing out! I even was trying a new DNN installation for one of my new domains, and could not even get through the installation wizard before it timed out!

Here is my question...is it possible that it is DNN, and the fact that I am not an "expert" (as I have been convinced of before today...my lack of experise, that is)? Or is it more likely the hosting itself?

Is there anything I can do to work around this? Or do I need to actually look at moving away from this hosting company...even though it is through my friend?

How many ram do you get on your server? if you on shared hosting, this might be not sufficient, forcing frequent app restarts.

I use to think that was what was causing it to go slow before moving the servers and with the old sites up. But now it seems it is running slow with even trying to do brand new installs.

I am thinking of trying one thing...if I can figure out how. I would like to take one of my computers and turn it into basically my server. I think if I can just create the website on the local host on the computer, then what? Get an ip address somehow for the local host? Any clues how to do that?

you may install IIS on your local PC (if running Win7 Pro) and use a service like DynDNS to assign a DomainName to it, but IMHO this is not a real good idea for web hosting in general.

Which version of DNN are you running?

If you're running 6, in Host Settings, Advanced, try turning on the Client Resource Management options. They make a HUGE difference in speed when the site is running.
