The default portal alias was set incorrectly. Once updated the profile picture appeared fine. One thing though is that the small profile pic thumbs are squeezed. Is there anyway we can display them unsqueezed and not have to rely on users submitting pictures in a perfectly square format?

Thanks for the swift answer! It's only really a problem/noticeable in the control bar when a user is logged in - the profile picture between the username and the logout button - where would I modify the settings for that so that instead of showing a strangely proprtioned thumbnail it would show a square crop of the image instead...
