Hi Everyone,

I did a quick search but couldn't find anything really related to what I am having.

The System:

DNN version:6.01.01 (12)

WIndows 2003 IIS 6

We are using DNN for out intranet site, and I want users to automatically authenticate with Active Directory when they hit the website.  And....it works!  Sorta.  :)

The issue is this: when the user goes to http://servername they are automatically authenticated and can do what they want.  If that cookie disappears for whatever reason, and they go to a bookmark on that intranet site, like http://servername/forum, they will not be logged in.  In other words they only get logged in when they visit the base url.  How can I make them log in automatically, no matter what page they visit first?

Thanks

It should still work no matter what URL they're hitting on the site especially if the cookie is missing. The authentication cookie only lasts as long as an hour unless changed in the web.config. Then you are authenticated again unless perhaps the forum is a 3rd party forum in an iframe? Just to be sure it's not a case of someone logging out of the website and then trying to use a bookmark to the forum URL is it?

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the quick response.

>>unless perhaps the forum is a 3rd party forum in an iframe?

I dont think this is the case. We installed the "forum" module from dnn. Described as "The core forum module for DotNetNuke.4.4.3"

>>Just to be sure it's not a case of someone logging out of the website and then trying to use a bookmark to the forum URL is it?
Yes, this is the issue. When a user who is not currently logged in hits our base url they are logged in automatically. When a user who is not logged in comes to the site (any page besides our base url) via a bookmark or other means, they are not automatically logged in.

We want all users to be logged in no matter what link they use.

Okay it's not a 3rd party forum.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying about being logged out. What I meant was... If I'm logged in to the site and I click the logout button there's a time period (generally about an hour) where if I go back to the site (any page) I won't be logged in again. But after an hour it works fine.

For what it's worth, I've got pretty much the same setup as you except I'm running DNN 6.2.0 and I just went to a page on our intranet site that wasn't the main page and got logged in immediately. I even went to a page that's locked down to staff and isn't available anonymous users.

The site does not have a logout button, since it is a intranet site. People are supposed to be logged in automatically no matter what subpage on the intranet they go to. That is not happening if they do not go to the base url (http://servername) first. If they do, then all is good. But if someone gives them a webpage to go to (http://servername/forum) and the authentication cookie they got from going to the base url first is gone then they are not logged in and cannot post anything. They will have to go back to the base url where they somehow become logged back in and then navigate back to the forum. How can I change that? How can I get these people to automatically log in, no matter what page they hit?

Thanks.
