I have installed both the DNN 5.0 forums and Active forums 5.0 and I find that neither of the 2 make it easy for users to post images in their posts. Also, I have researched to the best of my ability and can't find any information on the subject. Am I the only one that is having this problem?

In the DNN forums, unless the user has some HTML knowledge, the have to upload an image to our file system and that can get very messy wilth lots of people posting. what folder do you assign to them? And then that folder gets filled with images and makes it hard for the user to find the image they just uploaded.
Back in DNN4 when using the WYSIWYG if you clicked on the add image button it gave you an option to post a url to link the image from like photobucket.com or other image hosting sites. This was easy to explain to the average user, and we didn't have to host the images. But the WYSIWYG that DNN uses now doesn't give that option. I don't understand why that option was taken away, but that is getting off subject a bit.

In Active Forums they make the the input box work more like what you see in PHP forums where you just put the url in between
, but it doesn't work. it always comes back a broken image. and the upload attachment doesn't seem to work either.

Then I go to the DNN Store and can't find any 3rd party companies that offer a forum module I can buy.

I just want for my users to be able to easily post a picture of their car in the forums. Any ideas?

I agree with this thread, we need a solid feature rich forum for users to want to use our websites.  I am now using both forums on different websites and my websites have DIED using them.  When I used phpBB and was programing in php more I had my sites booming, but since my transition thinking I am going to something better my websites have stalled out.

Between errors, exceptions and easy of use it is just too much work to use this system as the host and the end user.

For a basic website its great but when you want to add the friends, forums, journals, links, photos and stuff like that to share and make a website people can communicate easily through this has been a challenge for most.

I have had a lot of people try to push me back to our old systems, I have been trying to stay with DNN because I see the potential thinking ok next release this is going to be fixed... it has been years and I feel I am still in the same place just with more things that seem to break down on me. So I feel your frustration and I still want to see this work because .NET is cool language but the sloppy code reminds me of when Vista was first released...  well we can only hope it gets better, and one day there will be a standard release that does not flash so many exceptions while using it normally.

In Active Forums, you can set the forum up to allow use of the HTML editor.  You can use the DNN Editor or simple text.  The problem is what they are able to see.   There must be a way to role base what editor options from the DNN Editor are available.  It is nice to be able to bold, list and do simple editing for making a nice post.  From what I see so far this is how you would be able to do it:

Active Forums:  go to control panel, select the forum or forum group in the forums menu, then set the features that forum or forum group can use.  Select HTML and set it to the DNN Editor.

Good Luck
