I have installed a dot net nuke , setup the database made my pages and links to as it is of my old site. Now I needed a page [module] which will have to query to some other database [not the DNN DB]

What can i do?

Kamran,

the best way to do this is providing a web service for the other database and querying it that way.

If you have access to the database itself from you webserver (e.g. because it is on the same SQL server) you can also use a "normal" Connection string within your module without using DAL or DAL+ (or DAL2 in DNN 7).

Best wishes

What i needed is the access of the database in developed module.I am not going to make other web service for it.I were planning to simply add the connection string to my database on my DNN website. In the module i want's to access that connection string and call my logic.

Moreover i were surprised that DNN is using DAAB of such an old version [I think 2.0].I were planning to use DAAB 5.0 or atleast 4.1 for data access in my module.

Also Just help me in cofiguring the module. What i have done is download install package of DNN 6.2 and configure it .Changes some pages and logos.

Then i have downloaded and install the VS template for module development. Then I have created a new web project with DNN template and edited a user control there. Now how can i import it into my main DNN application which i have configures earlier?

Kamran,

I am not too sure if I understand your needs, but if you don't want to use a web service to access to other database, you should define a module setting for your module to store the connection string and not the web.config file - this would make it easier to maintain.

Best wishes
