I Dont quite exactly know where this belongs to, so I am going to put it in here because this problem was not there initially but happened after one of the upgrades. 

Before a few months  when I did one of the version upgrades, i realized that after I click on sign in and key in the user name and password, the login window does not dissapear. Instead the post login page appears in the login window!

Weird. If I close the login window then the page refreshes and stays in a logged out mode. 

The only workaround which is absolutely unfriendly is after the login user has to maximize the small login window to be able to see the full page and proceed from there.

Any help chiefs?

most likely some code in the Skin or a module on the page is interfering with code javascript. In Admin > Sitesettings you may disable popups or use default skin and container.

It could be a virus infection too, I had the same issue on one of my customer's PC and it went away after running combofix.
