Hi all,

I am currently using DNN 6 on set up on my local comp as a host for the webapp. My website folder permission is set up to use IIS AppPool\DefaultAppPool and when i check name, everything is fine, DefaultAppPool is found. However, the issue occurs when i try to move my web folder to a server( ServerA) and the database to another server (ServerB). Server A runs on Windows Server 2008. When i try to set up the  website folder permission using IIS AppPool\DefaultApPool then check name, it cannot be found. I suspect this result in the following error when i tried to access the site:

Access to the path 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\MoneySite\App_Data\ClientDependency\ServerB-bdf9b9182d1903cf5e5ef27dc871b194-map.xml' is denied.

Am i correct to say that this issue is due to the AppPool not set up correctly?
If so, how do i set the AppPool on my site folder?
I am currently doing, site folder->properties->Security->Edit->Add->
check name for AppPool\DefaultAppPool but it doesn't work.

The DefaultAppPool is not found.

Open IIS on Server A and see if that AppPool is there. If not, create it and then grant it permissions to your folders.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the response. I realize that the DefaultAppPool on ServerA has a identity column, set to "Network Service" while the one on my local machine is set to "ApplicationPoolIdentity".

Thus, I try the follow solution:
1. Create a new AppPool, set Identity to "ApplicationPoolIdentity", Set Load User Profile to "True". And Set Application pool of my website to the new AppPool. When I try to edit security permission for the website folder and search for the new AppPool. Again, the name could not be found.

2. Next, i reset everything and set identity of DefaultAppPool to "ApplicationPoolIdentity" and still, it could not be found.

3. Then I restart ServerA and try, still not working. I reset everything and try again. Yet still name could not be found.

Do you have any other solutions for me to try?

Thanks!

Anyway, I found that Server is running under Server 2008 Web edition.
Instead of using IIS AppPool\DefaultAppPool, i use NETWORK SERVICE for the folder permission instead and it works.
Apparently, DefaultAppPool runs under NETWORK SERVICE on the web edition.

But any idea why i can't set up a new AppPool under ApplicationPoolIdentity and locate the new AppPool when applying folder permission?

I can't say for sure. Maybe a permissions issue? Are you an admin with full rights?

Although I see the comment about granting the apppool permissions on the DNN install folder, I've never once had to do that. So I can't offer much help there since it never seems to be an issue on my end.
