Hello, all...

I now have a problem with VIEW.ASCX not displaying.  EDIT.ASCX displays normally, and I'm able to enter transactions on this screen successfully.

But I notice (in Chris Hammond's TASKMANAGER Video # 22) that the VIEW.ASCX screen is also supposed to display, and apparently automatically.

I have no idea why the VIEW.ASCX screen is not displaying;  I have no idea how to get it done.

Can someone help me out ???

THANKS for your help !!!

Jeff

There could be several reasons for the view control not displaying. One of the most common is that the control's registration (editable in Host --> Extensions) has given this particular .ascx module control a non-blank ControlKey. The module must have one and only one control with a blank ControlKey. This control is then the default view control which will display initially when visiting the page on which an instance of a module has been placed.

If that is not the issue, check the Admin --> Event Viewer to see if any module load exceptions are being logged when the page tries to display the module's default view control.

Hi, Bill...

I sent you a message yesterday evening thru the "quick reply", but I'm not sure you got it, so I'll repeat it...

1.  THANKS FOR THE INFO about the "little pencil and paper" next to the extension on the EXTENSIONS page.  I never would have realized that stuff was there if you hadn't told me.

2.  I opened it and found that VIEW.ASCX was set to the default (even though I've never seen it), so I changed EDIT.ASCX (and even SETTINGS.ASCX) to the default, but got no good result.    The changes either had 1) no effect, or 2) displayed the EDIT page right on the TASKMANAGER default page (is that the way it's supposed to be), or 3) starting display PAGE FULL of Manager buttons, each one apparently working.   At no time did I see the 2 pages (EDIT, VIEW) in sequence.

3.  I looked briefly at the ADMIN page and the log messages you suggested.  I didn't have time yesterday, but sometime this weekend I will "stage" a change and will record the precise log-messages entered and will report them to you.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP, BILL !!!!

Hi, Bill...

I went in to the ADMIN > Event Viewer and recorded the last message.  It occcurred at 1:58:56 "General Exception".

I then added 3 transactions with no ensuing messages (except for the normal "Application Started" message).

So, in view of the error details I'm about to show you below, my question is:  Do I need to uncomment the "Get Search Items" subroutine in FEATURECONTROLLER.CS ???   I scraped the code straight from dnntaskmanager.codeplex.com , where it is also commented out.

THANKS for your help.

Jeff

Hi, Bill...

I would add to what I just said that I only was able to see the EDIT screen by clicking on the TASKMANAGER button and entering the "Edit module" option.  The "View" screen never tried to show, as far as I know (there were no errors regarding it).

I will go in and mess with the "Edit / View / Settings" settings for the TASKMANAGER extension on the EXTENSIONS page latter this evening.

THANKS for your help !!!

Jeff
