All,

I have a custom module that looks for the visiting employees company image and loads it to an asp image control if found.  However, the code always returns false even though the image is present.

Here's the local path to it and I can paste it in to a browser and it loads fine:

http://localhost/DNN613x2/Portals/0/Images/Mark.jpg

I've tried all variations of the path, granted "everyone" full access to the images folder and even added the IIS app pool to the images folder as well.  No luck.

From what I've read file.exists (c#) returns false if it encounters an error such as one that could be caused by permissions.  Since it suppresses the error and returns false, I have no way of know if this is causing it, if it's how I'm setting the path or something else entirely.

Has anyone successfully done this in a DNN module and be willing to share the code?  I've spent hours working on this with no success.

Thanks,

Mark

Have you tried going through the DNN File API instead of reading directly from the file system? Try playing around with FileController to see if you can find it that way.

Chris,

I figured it out - it works if I look at the file system, like this:

c:\inetpub\wwwroot\Dotnetnuke\blah\blah

Instead of http, like this:

http://intranet/blah/blah

Thanks for the tip though. I'll still look further in to that API.

I think the standardd approach here is:
- Start with your URL
- Pass it to Server.MapPath to get the URL converted to a file system location
- Open the file
