If it is so important to offer this for the Pro versions why not license it for Pro and leave it available to those of us who have clients that cannot afford $2K a year but need a real URL re-writer.

Just read the software plan on iFinity and most of the features I use are not in Community.

DNN corp took the best doc system off the market and now the best (only) URL re-writer has been taken too.
I think this is going to make more negative impact for DNN than losing Doc Manager and Active Social put together.

The protagonists makes a well reasoned and well written case for this move but it leaves many of us with a significant problem. (Again).
It is not as if removing Doc Manager and active products from the marketplace resulted in new offerings of comparable quality.

I have been using DNN since 2006 but am now going to look seriously at alternatives.  Not sure I trust DNN any more.
I do not know why anyone thinks this is a good thing.

Ian, I echo your sentiments. I find it disturbing that the best modules are being consumed by DNN corporate and resold as part of a premium package. Naturally, this makes me apprehensive about purchasing modules or becoming attached to independent vendors in the future. I am glad the core is getting some form of upgrade in it's URL writing capability, but the best features are off the table for DNN community version.

Hi guys, I thought this too initially but then I read the details closer. Turns out the only thing not available to the community is the 400 & 500 error handling.

Truly, this is fantastic news for us community members as the fundamental URL handling needs of a website are now available for free. Hopefully many more vendors will build extension for their modules and the general URL landscape will greatly improve.

Hi Erik

Exactly. Of course there is some risk with vendors not bought up too but this consistent creaming off the top of the 3rd party marketplace does not help at all.

What's next I wonder.  DNN does not have a tokenised article system or a form application - does this mean that Ventrian and Data Springs are next?

Shaun W says in his blog that this leaves space for others but this has not taken place before so why would it now.

I have a design rule I follow - "ask obvious questions" -  so am checking out other platforms.

@DDN Corp - Why not a lite version of pro ?
$2K a year is outside the budgets of many but cutting that in half and removing the DNN Corp support would be a sellable proposition for many of my clients.
Those of us working with small organisations and budgets can then get on and not have to worry about disruptive and extra work.

Ian

@ Lance
You cannot remove the .aspx suffix.  There go all your print and other publication URLs.
Ian
PS. Do you work for DNN
