Hello,Is it possible in some way to change the types of file extensions that can be uploaded in the data type "image"?(for example to allow other files to be uploaded with the data type "image" in the user profile.)

SYRAH5,

Yes, this is possible and there are 2 ways to go about it (depending on how you're uploading the images).

1.) Login as Host. Go to Host Settings > Other Settings and you should see an "Allowable File Extensions" . In this location you can specify the allowed file types.

2.) If you're using the HTML editor to upload images you can restrict the allowable file types by going to Host Settings Tab > HTML Editor Manager > Click "Everyone (or whatever editor name you have created) > Image Manager Settings > Filters. Here again you can specify the allowed file types for upload.

Hope this helps!

No, sorry both ways don't work. The file formats like .doc and .pdf are already allowed in the "Allowable File Extensions", and I don't want to use the HTML editor to upload the file, because the user can then see and remove other files that are uploaded by others. I prefer to use the "photo upload" section of the user profile, because a user can than see his own uploaded files in a list. If it is possible, I would really like to change the settings somewhere to allow other files than images to be uploaded.

I think you should rethink your strategy on this. You're wanting to upload files that are not images into a destination folder that is structured to handle images. The profile photo section is used for holding photos/images rather than documents.

You may want to try adding another property to the user profile section or find some other module or way to creatively meet your needs.

Thanks for you're replies.yes, I think you're right about this. I'm now trying to use a profile field of the "rich-text" type, where I'm hiding the toolbars except the button for "document manager".So far it seems to work...
