It needs a few simple enhancements to really be great.

1) Line feeds are allowed in the editor but they are removed when the message is submitted.   This is really annoying.

 2) When a messaging conversation has gone back and forth a couple of times, it can become hard to determine who the conversation is occurring with unless you re-open it. This is especially important if you have a lot of conversations in your inbox and you are trying to find a previous conversation with a specific user.

It would be helpful if the following information was displayed in the inbox conversation list:

Original Author
Original Recipient(s)
Last Reply Author

In the case where the conversation is between two people, it should always show the photo of the "other" person.

In the case where the conversation involves multiple people, it should show the photo of the last user to reply.

A couple of other ideas that would make thing much better as well.

1) More flexible templates for Message/Notification emails. Specifically, I'd like to be able to remove the message content from the email and instead include a link back to the appropriate tab in the message center. Ever since rolling out 6.2 on my site I've been having users try and reply to email notifications which doesn't work.

2) The ability to specify a "no-reply" address that is used to send out the email notifications. Right now it uses the admin email when is not desirable IMO.

Bump. Can't believe this isn't a concern to anyone else.

Is nobody else using private messaging on their site via the built in Message Center?

Jason, I think they're all good suggestions and would recommend you log them in either the community voice or support.dotnetnuke.com. We plan on adding a lot more notifications support in future versions so I'm sure the message centre will see some updates also.

I will do that. Thanks.

I'm glad to hear that notifications/messaging is going to be getting some future attention. Private messaging is a heavily used feature on my site and frankly the way the way it works (specifically the 2 issues I pointed out in the first post) appear to be fairly nasty bugs to end users.
