I've noticed that when upgrading I see files that get left behind which I don't think are needed. For example in an instance of DNN that is upgraded to 6.2.5 I still have a lot of vb core files. Is it safe to delete any files that are listed in the text files of the install package in 'Install\Cleanup'?

Also I have noticed that modules that need to be upgraded are not loaded if you use the upgrade package, you have to manually grab all those, wouldn't it be better if the module packages were at least copied and made available in the upgrade package?

Just sayin...

Penny,

to your first point (Cleanup): I would say yes - anyway, before doing so, I would make a backup of the site and test it...

The other thing has something to do with DNN's (or most probably DNN Corp's) strategy/politics/call it whatever you want. There are no more "Core" modules that are delivered with the core system (except HTML I think). This has advantages - the packets are smaller and a lot of extensions that are not needed by a user do not waste capacities on the hard disk/web space etc. On the other hand it has become a bit more uncomfortable for the sys admins, as they have to check for module updates.

Best wishes
Michael

Thanks for the reply Michael. (nice hat!)

I understand that approach about what we used to call 'Core' modules but why does the 'install' package include a large list of modules which can then be installed as 'available extensions' but those are not in the 'upgrade' package?

Penny,

that is something we have to ask DNN Corp. I don't know their reasons...

Best wishes
Michael
