Hi All,

Not sure if this has been asked before and if anyone is facing the same issue.

I noticed that in DNN, the page setting "Open Link In New Browser Window?" does not have any effect in the navigation menu.

We have a workaround, which is to entered a javascript in the "Location" rather than the actual URL directly
example is void(window.open('http://www.google.com'))
But this is not an ideal solution as there will be 'end user' doing the page/content setup and they are not familiar with javascript.

I believe is the way the DNN7 menu is being coded and it may not take in this setting.
Anyone know of a fix? Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

I see the same as you do. It seems that the ddrmenu skin object doesn't generate in the xml the information "open in a new windows" so the xsl template cannot use the information. If someone know how to get the information in the xml content, it will be really interesting.

I'm not convinced that this is good design. Caveat - this is my opinion.

I think that, as a user, I would NOT expect a menu item to open a new window. I expect the menu to navigate around the site staying in one window.

I might think it reasonable that a link IN one of those windows would open a different site in a new window but not the menu.

So - my opinion is don't do it.

Best wishes,

Hi,

I agree with you that the user should choose how he wants to navigate in most case(continue in the same tab or open a new).
By the way there is an option 'open in a new windows' that cannot be used through the ddrmenu.

IMO there are very good reasons to open in a new window from a menu in some cases.

For instance on an Intranet, to redirect to other portals / websites or when you link a menu item a file like a pdf.
