Hello,

I need help setting up a DotNetNuke website on Godaddy.com.

I recently purchased a company along with their website. The previous IT admin sent me the website files rared up. I had no idea what I was looking at until I did some research and found out that it was a DotNetNuke website. I had no idea what DNN was up until a few hours ago.

I purchased a new domain on GoDaddy (Windows based, ASP 4.0). The rar file he sent he had all the files the original website used. How do I get these files working on my GoDaddy site?

It looks like the original website had DNN installed in the root folder ("\"). With GoDaddy, I am only able to install DNN into a subdirectory. I was able to find the previous database login and password in the web.config file.

Please help me! I am techy savy and can understand most of the terms you guys throw out there, but have no idea how to get DNN working with my new GoDaddy domain.

I wish to try to manage this problem myself instead of hiring someone so I can learn how to manage a DNN in case I need to troubleshoot. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

DotNetNukeNoob,

First of all... welcome to the community! DotNetNuke is a great CMS with an even better community of people around the world. I'm not sure where you are located, but there are user groups in several cities around the globe, community conferences, and corporate conferences that you can attend to get plugged in to what's going on with DNN.

Also, I should make you aware of some resources that are available here on the site. You've found the forums, but there is also a Community Exchange where people ask questions and a video library full of video tutorials of all aspects of DotNetNuke.

Regarding your current situation, I will be honest with you... GoDaddy is not good for hosting DotNetNuke sites. I experienced this myself when I first started with DotNetNuke. Save yourself the headache and deal with a hosting company that supports DNN. There are several in the ecosystem.  You can read about my experience with GoDaddy here.

Once you get with a DNN hosting company you should be good to go and they will help you get up and running and it will also save you a lot of headaches and stress in the long run.

Again, welcome!

CBP

Well, GoDaddy is not a good choice for DNN, especially DNN7.

Thank you for the kind welcome and responses!

It seems like all the research I've done says to not host with GoDaddy. Unfortunately  I already signed a 2 year contract before I knew the site was formed with DNN :/

Are there any steps I can take to make it work? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I don't really understand what a 2 years contract has to do with GoDaddy hosting ?
