Hi Everyone,

I know there's been a fair few posts about DNN and SharePoint before, but I wanted to know which direction our team should take when developing a new web portal based application by comparing SharePoint 2010 and DNN7. The Licensing costs are not an issue. The website is an internet application with a lot social networking features as well as other customised functionality.

I do not have much experience with SharePoint but remember that skinning, customising and overall development platform used to be limiting and messy. The social networking features in SharePoint's earlier features use to be limited as well.

Any help or direction would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Joe

My company looked at both and we decided on DNN due to the UI being better/easier and writing modules is a breeze.

Where SP shines is its integration with Office and its document sharing. The workflows are nice too. There are other areas too but it just didn't fit in to our intranet solution like DNN.

Thanks for your input really appreciate it.

Modules definitely look a lot easier to develop in DNN as well as having options to develop in MVC, Knockout or the traditional webforms.

We won't be utilising any integration across microsoft products office, outlook etc. DNN to me seems the obvious choice.

Hi Joey,

Below is a link to a CMS comparison matrix that includes DNN and SharePoint along with other CMSs. Feel free to take a peek. I hope this helps you!

There is another CMS compare site over here: http://www.cmsmatrix.org/

IMHO, Sharepoint is a very expensive product and customization can be messy. DNN also has an awesome set of social tools
