for DNN being able to install the database attached, it needs the sa password being set during installation of sql server (or edited by an admin afterwards).
After installing DNN, make sure not to use sa for database access in web.config for security reasons.

I don't understand your answer.  Will the DNN installation package include SQL Server as part of the install?  Or, does it expect that SQL Server is already installed?

Since I am installing using the dotnetnuke_iis executable, I have no idea where to look for the .\SQLExpress pasword for sa.

 So, I'm stuck...

follow up to my previous reply... it appears that the DNN installed SQL Server (so, it seems like it should know the password...). I rebooted my computer and restarted the install.  so, I got past the password issue but NOW every other component install failed!

So, far I'm not impressed with DNN.  IS there a PDF or .doc that steps me through the install?  Will I do better downloading the source code and compiling/running (I have visual Studio 2012)?
