I'm new to DNN and compared to other CMS's it is my favorite. It is extremely powerful and intuitive.
The downside to DNN over something like WordPress however, is the amount of useful feedback from the user community.
I've posted a few questions and haven't received any feedback across many sites. Let me clarify. If you have an error message or highly technical problem there is usually an answer, but from the perspective of a power user there isn't a lot of feedback.

Also It seems like DNN tends to be the pick of choice for a more technical user base, which is interesting because DNN is much more intuitive than WordPress. I also notice that DNN user's tend to develop their own solutions rather than buying/using existing modules; at least that is my impression., which makes coming in as a power user a little more difficult.

Let me give you an example. I'm looking for a Form builder module for e-mail forms and maybe some simple e-commerce and I've seen a few recommendations but I can get no real sense or level of confidence with a specific solution. On WordPress forums I could find out what is the top pick right away.

In WordPress forums there are clear front-runners for specific module solutions. So far I haven't had much luck navigating the DotNetNuke store as I get an insane amount of results and the relevance seems to be hit or miss.  From the perspective of a power user coming from WordPress I would love to see more clear recommendations on various solutions in the Community and make solutions easier to find from the Power User perspective as opposed to the developer perspective.

I've also notice that good tutorials are hard to come by unless you count DNNCreative which charges to get any answers which is frustrating.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

I think that comparative to WordPress you are very correct, DotNetNuke is much more intuitive (I don't know if that has anything to do with the fact that I have used DNN much more than WP). To add a bit to your statement about the DNN Community, you will find that you really have to focus your questions here in the DotNetNuke community forums rather than any others. This is the best place for advice on anything DotNetNuke related and the response to questions here generally happens rather quickly.

You may be a little correct in saying that there are more technical people who use DNN rather than WP, but that is by nature of what you can accomplish with DotNetNuke. You aren't going to try and build an eCommerce site that need to be load balanced with WP, that is not it's core competency. DNN is a much more powerful tool for building very robust sites with little to no change out of the box, which sometimes does require the help of more technically savvy people.

The modules that are available for DNN can for the most part be found in the DNN store, and with a few clicks you can read reviews which will give you some insight on the module and developers. The storefront site does a great job now of displaying top developers and modules.

While DNN creative may be more expensive than what most people want to pay for video tutorials, it can be a very valuable resource and prove to be more that worth the subscription cost.

All in all, I think you have made some very valid points, but I would recommend focusing your questions here in these forums. You will find the community members here to be very passionate about DotNetNuke and inviting when it comes to new members of the community. I have never been steered in a wrong path coming here.

Webmaster,

Welcome to the Community! Johnny has given you some good insight. I just wanted to add that the Community Exchange here on the site is also a valuable resource for getting answers to your DotNetNuke questions.
