This is my first time working with DotNetNuke and I am now managing a already developed site. Here's my question: one of the forms in a Module has a text box field "Project" the form updates a table in the database. When submitting the form I am getting this error "An unexpected error occurred. Please try again." I determined that it is because the column length in the table is "varchar(50)" and the text the user is entering is more than 50 characters. I changed the column length in the table to be "varchar(100) but I am still getting the error. What other changes do I need to do to fix the error. Thanks Pat

Bivarit,

Welcome to the DotNetNuke Community!

Are you able to figure out which module the form field is located on? That will help. Also, if you view the Event Viewer (Hover over Admin and click "Event Viewer") and you should be able to get more information about the error. The length check may reside somewhere in the data access level. If so, you should be able to locate the specific file in the event viewer to know what needs updating. See if you can collect some of that data and post back here to the message board so we can better assist.

Clint thanks for your response. I am able to get to the event log. I can see where I logged in successfully. After I logged in I submitted the form with the "more than 50 characters" and clicked the submit button and got the error message "An unexpected error occurred. Please try again.". There is not anything in the log for the error. Thanks, Pat

Ok so let's try to track down the module that is causing the issue.  Whatever page you're on when you're getting the error, click into edit mode and go into the module settings and see what the title of the module is.  Once you determine the module then that will help further the investigation.

Clint,

Under Module Setting the Module is "Sample Request" and the Module Title is "Sample Request".

Thanks, Pat
