Ok so you can achieve all of this without having to code... if you choose to.

Just install Form and List and create your configuration for the data items you want to capture. When you're creating the items there is a check-box that is "searchable". If you want that column data to be indexed in the search then check that box. This will automatically store the data in a SQL table via the Form and List module. This blog post by Form and List module creator Stefan Cullman shows the SQL tables used in the Form and List module.

The core DNN Search is based on Lucene. You can see a video that Will Strohl created about how search works in our video library. This video was created on an older version of DNN, but the functionality is still very similar. 

Also, once you login to the site as host you can see (under HOST > ADVANCED ) the "Schedule" item which is where scheduled items are show in DNN. There is a search crawler scheduled item that you can configure to run whenever you need.
