Hello

We are running on an old verion of DNN 5.4.4 and need to upgrade but we are pretty new to Dot Net Nuke and not really sure what we are doing. Im fine adding pages and content but the background stuff i have no idea about. Does anyone have any tips or more importantly has anyone done this before and experienced any major problems? Will my modules installed still work? will the page skins be affected? Any advice anyone can give would be much appriciated before we take on this task?

thank you

Hi,

first read the Wiki article about the suggested upgrade path.

Then make a copy of your website in a testing/local environment. Upgrade step by step, test if everything works as expected (esp. skins and third party modules). If yes, backup the step, and upgrade to the next step, test, and so on...

If something does not work, try to find newer versions of the not working extension, try to fix the issue with the skin...

Write down everything you do at each step. After you have successfully upgraded and know what to do, do the upgrade on your production server(s).

Best wishes and good luck!
Michael

Hi HIL,

You can find the recommended path of upgrading on below link.
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/Page/Suggested_Upgrade_Path.aspx

As far as the working of modules is concerned, the modules should work in the higher version also, but before starting upgrade, you take the backup of your website as well as the database.

Thanks,
