Many CMS's let you assign modules sitewide by selecting a checkbox against the menu items for the pages they need to be on, If you then need to change the selection list it is a simple procedure to select or deselect from the list.
I shudder to think how much work DNN would be, if for e.g a local goverment site decided to hide modules from half its pages or add a new module to the sidebar for a say a couple of hundred pages.

I agree that's a missing feature in DNN.
This has been suggested by many people before, but never added to the framework, while all the basics are kind of there already, but managing it is difficult.
Try the "Display on all page" option.
The disadvantage of that is that it really displays the module on all pages (even admin), meaning you have to delete is on the pages you don't want it.

Did you look at the page templates? With those you can add modules to a new page.. (Page > Export, then select the exported page as a template for a new page)

As mentioned by others, a skin object would be another solution, but in general they are not editable and you would have to work with multiple skins.

Timo, I am fairly recently come accross to DNN so still getting to grips with it.I have came a long way in a few weeks, but have to admit I have not seen the page template feature yet.

I assume from your post that you would create a page or pages with the correct skins, modules and containers for the layouts you need then export them as a template.
These templates I guess will then form the basis of any new pages?.

Where and how would I implement them?. I will have a google but if you have any info I would appreciate it.

Regards Stuart

Stuart,

templating is quite easy: In the "Edit Page" menu, click on "Export Page". Select a folder ("Templates" is the default, and this is a good idea), and give the template a name. Add a short description, and if you want, check "Include Content" if you want to include the module content in the template (note: this works only, when the module has Export/Import capabilities, or in DNN-speech: The IPortable interface is implemented).

When you create a page, you can select this template - et voilà!

Best wishes
Michael

You are correct.
A. Create your page with the right modules on it.
B. From the control panel choose Page > Export
C. Create a new page and select the exported Page as the template.

Disadvantage: Not everything is exported to the template.
This depends on how well the used module supports DNN's portable functionality and the module settings are not exported..

I am working on a small project now using responsive templates so i will give it a go, if it successfull that may well be the solution for our local goverment site if and when we go open source.

Cheers Guys. Stuart
