Hi community,

I want to assign additional information to dnn-users on my website. As there are several possibilities of doing this I am unsure which one might be the best. First I want to explain the situation:

Target: Each user on the website will get an additional identification number (out of a collection of numbers) assigned by the admin of the website.

Problems:

How to ...

  • store/get the new ID assigned to a user.
  • assign the ID to a user.

The solutions from my current point of view are:

  • Modify the dnn build-in files + tables. (Essentially this would mean modify the Users-Table in the db, modify the UserController and change the user modify page from dnn to have an additional dropdownlist to choose the new ID from) OR
  • Create a new table in the db storing the connection between Users and the new ID + creating a Controller and Info class for the new table.

Maybe there is another way I haven't thought of? If these are the only possibilities which one do you think is the better one?

Thanks for your responses,

Nils

In admin > Site Settings you may extend user profile with custom properties. make it read-only, if only the admin should edit this value.
