This is going to seem like an amateurish question, please forgive,

I have had a number of custom modules developed. Overall I have been satisfied with the results. However from time to time service on the developed modules has been slow to fix things.

In the event I were to seek out another developer to maintain the site and to tweak existing modules will they need the source code?

How do I know that a developer has given me the correct source code? Is there any way to check that it is before I make a final payment to them?

Hi,

You need to ask for the solution file of all the modules, so that your developer can open that solution in visual studio for further modification. As far as the matter of correct solution file is concerned, you ask your developer to check each solution file before making the payment.

Thanks,

more clearly: a developer needs source code to perform modifications on your custom modules. In addition, as Avinash pointed out, it would be handy having solution (or project) files as well as build script (if any).

Yes. Ask for all source code for the modules they have developed and make it very clear for future work that they need to continue to provide the source code. No exceptions.
