Hi,

Wonder what is the best way to refresh user roles client side so they get access to a new role. Here is the use case:

1. User receives a special link with an "rsvp" code in the querystring (?rsvp=somespecialcode) that will automatically add them to a public role.
2. User clicks on link and DNN correctly automatically adds them to the role; however,
3. When user navigates to that group page after clicking on the link, they still see access denied. The user has to logout, then log back in to pick up the new security role they were added to.

It used to be you could just expire the "portalroles" cookie, and voila, on the next page they visit, they pick up a new set of role auths in new cookie. That has been deprecated in DNN 7. Been searching Google and the forums here for the replacement solution to do this client side with no luck. Can this be done with JQuery perhaps. If so, what are the calls needed? An example script or point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks.

Doug,

This model is still very new to me but at one point there was another way: In the code behind file, drop and re-add the role.

Where I used this was to give a person who could not be given host privileges the capability of adding new members to a certain site.  Or editing them.

There was no access denied issue using this method but I don't know this capability exists in 7.

In DNN 7 module I am making I was able to give users in other roles the ability to create child portals.  This works fine but it works by the role already being configured and a senior sales rep adding a rep underneath them who then will have the ability to create portals for clients.

I don't know if that's related enough to what you're doing but in scoping over the Forum to get in some mentoring time, figured I'd give this input.

I think it's an outside shot that it'll help but for what it's worth, there you have it.
