After upgrading from 6.2 to 7.06 I get the: error=Object+reference+not+set+to+an+instance+of+an+object.&content=0

I think I forgot to change the package attribute from read only after download- well now what do I do to correct the error?  Another upgrade FROM 7.06 TO 7.06 doesn't work - site is offline until this is fixed...please help!

Hi,
restore your backup and retry from 6.2

Did you well use the update pack and not the install one ?
Does you website use "special" modules if yes, did you check them version and compatibilty or known bug with dnn 7 ?
Whatever, you can go to you database and check the last detailed error in EventLog table field LogProperties to see if there is some more detailed informaion on the error
regards

Hi,

Have you unlocked the upgrade zip file before copying it to your dnn6.2 website ?

Also follow the proper path for upgrading which is given over here.

Thanks,

Julien - I tried to reinstall the 6.2 backup - but it failed as I got  a stack trace error- (one I've not encountered before) .  So reinstalling the backup did not work!

I can try installing an earlier than the backup to install the backup on! then do the upgrade again.  Seems like a lot of file transfers to get the "auto process to work".

I know I forgot to change the attribute from read only before installing and after downloading 7.06 and the upgrade process.  Now the question is what to do. I tried using the .bak restore from database on SQL Server but that also failed.  At the moment- i cannot access the site to see any logs!

I need some steps here to fix the way it is now other using the app offline.htm to say the site is down for maintenance.

Michael,
usually else if you have not a full acces to your server, you 'll be able to connect to your database using Sql Server Manager (on your pc) and setting you connection (remote acces) with the server name, bd name and login password used in the web.config file.
This will allow you to acces the site log.
If you have a full acces to your server, try  to recreate a database and restore you backup on it. It could help to restore on a bd without active connection.
Accessing the site from the server (by remote desktop)  can also give you a more detailed error message
What the site url eventually ?
