Hello - New to DNN

I'm going through the installation process for the first time and running into a snag with the "database server" entry.

I've watched all the instal videos and search around the net and the forums and not seeing the answer to my question.  In the videos it tells you how to do an install on your desktop machine.  But for whatever reason it leaves out a web based instal.  Why is that?

When I get to "database server" I am not sure what to enter.  I am getting the "Unable to connect to database." message and I think it's because of this field.  i have tried ., localhost, the site url, the site IP and the default Express entry.  All do the same thing.

Is there a fully fledged install guide specific for web based instals I can reference?  Or am I missing something else?

You'll need to check with your web host to find out the connection information, without that you won't be able to proceed.

Thanks for response Chris,

Was the manual install I'm running into probs with. There is the automated DNN script available on the host so I ran through that and it worked the second time. I was able to retrieve the SQLIP in the process. Not sure if that was the only hang up or not.

I'm going to assume it's better to do a traditional install than to use the script correct?

What other info do I need that only the host can provide?

Just an update. It seems that the install didn't like my admin username and without the IP in for the server location it couldn't connect to it.

So all better now :)
