We've just upgraded our site from DNN 5.6 to 6.2.7 and going through a snagging list.

The login and register functionality works fine. Both modules live on the same page. The register form works as expected, but…

the login module doesn't have a working login button? the form only works when I hit return on the keyboard.

When I click the login button it triggers the registration module to detect unfilled form fields and show the normal 'form field help messages' nothing else happens.

Can anybody offer some advice?

Hmm, thats odd. This seems to be an issue with the registration module. Best workaround is to put the 2 modules on different pages.
