The templates in the resx files are templates for the message content. EMAIL_USER_REGISTRATION_PRIVATE_BODY.Text: "Dear [User:FullName], your password is [Membership:Password]".

If I would like to add the company signature to all emails, I would need to edit all message templates. And it still doesn't guarantee that some module using the Mail.SendEMail call sends a message without our signature/skin.

Or are you referring to a different kind of template?


I am aware of the problems with html in emails and I prefer plain text e-mails myself. The signature doesn't even need to be html, only to include a logo I would need a tiny piece of html.

The templates are texts, so I would imagine the system emails are text-only. Just pasting html in them isn't going to work. Maybe some mail clients will autodetect it and switch to html rendering, but other e-mail clients will just display the html source (which would be the correct thing to do). An html email is a special multipart kind of email and should also contain a plain text body.
