Does the new 7.1 platform include the iFinity URL Master? (since they purchased the company last year)?   Or, do I need to keep that Module installed in my 7.1 installation?

Included in the community edition is a new url rewriter provider which includes an "advanced" format,

This format when enaled in the web.config will give you url's like \silk-bedding\silk-sheets.

It is a bit like the URL friendly rewirter that Bruce Chapman provided for free.

It hyphenates between words and removes the aspx extension. You don't lose any links in Search engines as the old url's are rewritten I assume with a 301.

The new Evoq has a more complete and flexible version of the URL Rewriter much like the Ifinity Master URL Rewriter.

There is also a new URL Value that you can set per page in the page settings.

Web.Config Setting

<friendlyUrl defaultProvider="DNNFriendlyUrl">
      <providers>
        <clear />
        <add name="DNNFriendlyUrl" type="DotNetNuke.Services.Url.FriendlyUrl.DNNFriendlyUrlProvider, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" includePageName="true" regexMatch="[^a-zA-Z0-9 _-]" urlformat="advanced" />
      </providers>
    </friendlyUrl>

Hi Bob

Steve's answer above is accurate, not much more I can add to that.

In terms of Url Master, it will still run in 7.1 if you have it.   There is a jQuery issue with the 2.7 release of Url Master in 7.1 which causes some issues in the UI for creating page urls.  This is fixed in version 2.8, which is currently undergoing testing and will be released very soon.  Version 2.8 also contains a function to migrate the current Url Master settings & redirects to the equivalent 7.1 settings, giving you the same Urls as you had with Url Master controlling them.

So, if I currently have an updated subscription to iFinity URL Master, I should keep the module installed and update to 2.8 when available - Correct?

Otherwise, I will get the more basic version that is now with 7.1. Will I always be able to keep the current URL Master Module, or will it go away and force me into the paid version of DNN eventually?

For more information on Url Master and DNN 7.1, please visit this blog post : http://www.ifinity.com.au/2013/07/22/DNN_71_and_Url_Master

Essentially, you can continue to run Url Master in DNN 7.1, you don't have to switch over.

You will never be forced into a paid version of DNN - Url Master is licensed under a perpetual license agreement.
