Tim you bring up a very good point.  I have a lot of major projects in design now for new modules that are not the cliche image sliders as you pointed out.   One of them to be released to BETA on Monday which I think is a module that doesn't yet exist in this way.  But, now that you bring it up.... is there a module you need that is not out there today?  If so, let me know.  I'll build it and with the new standards we have in place making sure it's modern, responsive, user friendly and gets the job one well and quickly.

@ Chris

Yes there is a module we need, it’s Active Forums.

Take the source, update it to a modern, responsive, user friendly forum that is well integrated with the new DNN standards and many of us will buy it.

Met vriendelijke groet, Han Peper

@ThoseInterestedInSomeGreatDNNModules....

Ok no problem.  I'm not 100% sold on using that source.  It's an outstanding module no doubt with a great design of its time, but I have some other requirements that may not work well with the restrictions in that design.  If I'm going to do this I'm going to take it far beyond the next level. I just need to complete the new release of SigmaPro 10 and then I'll dig into this to make it the best forums app anyone has ever used.

I have also been using DNN since the IBuySpy days - mainly to help friends with their personal websites.
I am not a full-time developer, but can help friends and small businesses using the open-source DNN and some additional low-cost commercial modules from the DNN eco-system. However, I must share the concerns of others when I see this eco-system withering away - the focus of DNN Corp seems to be primarily on making big bucks on the commercial Evoq products (which the larger DNN platform community will never be able to afford).

I am seriously thinking of moving to another CMS, as I need to know that new websites will still be supportable by an open-source community in the future.
When, via VOICE, we asked for some of the social and mobility functionality to be provided via a low cost commercial edition (e.g. $100/year) the answer was a straight NO.

Navin and Shaun don't seem to be visible in these discussions about the open-source solution and there seems to be little new functionality trickling down to DNN Plaftorm - all the new goodies are going into the high price commerial products.

I hope I am wrong.

FYI everything we do on platform can be viewed via the tracker https://dnntracker.atlassian.net (or go to support.dotnetnuke.com and it will redirect). At present I believe you need a login (I have a request out to remove that requirement), but you can look at whats planned for a release in many ways (I usually use the agile view as I want to check what I'm assigned - https://dnntracker.atlassian.net/secu... ).

To help those who don't want to register at this time, here is a short-list of enhancements on the list for 7.2.0

  • master debug switch
  • inline module controls
  • user management
  • recycle bin enhancements
  • sql module enhancements
  • search enhancements
  • subscription & digest notification
  • performance improvements
  • module creator
  • custom entity/page properties
  • javascript library management
  • ui/ux enhancements
  • permissions review
  • GeoIP API
