Shaun, glad to see you're keeping an eye on this thread.

I hear you and agree (somewhat) with what has been done with DNNPlatform visibility. BUT...

Platform visibility is only a scratch on what is really being discussed here. The biggest two issues the greater community is facing with DNN are the huge gaps in features and pricing between the Platform and Evoq solutions.

Taking modules that were once available in the community, incorporating them into Evoq, making them unavailable at the community level unless we now pay you a few thousand $. THAT IS AN ISSUE for many!

Watering down functionality once available at the DNNPlatform/Community level and forcing a vast majority of longstanding community members and small business to now fork out hefty fees IS AN ISSUE.

Can we still do THIS at the DNNPlatform level? I doubt it but would very much like to see it done!

Here's what I've said in a previous post: "I pay about $800/yr for MSDN licensing and $700/yr for the full Telerik suite. I'd be happy to pay similar for an light Evoq (Social) license per production install (that includes a dev and test install too). I don't even need/want ALL those features but more than DNNPlatform, certainly." But $11,000/yr? NO!

Sorry, DNNCorp has gone over the top with this and alienated quite a large sector of the community.

The problem? We're all too invested in the use of the system, 3rd party modules, ones we've developed ourselves to viably consider alternatives AND DNNCorp knows it!

Improving visibility so as to be seen to not be "abandoning the community" is all good and well.

That huge gap in features (including those removed) and pricing between Plaform and Evoq tell a very different story and send a very different message.

Sorry.

Lindsay,

What is described about building a Social Site with on the Ifinity site is still possible with DNN 7.1.1. and it is even a lot easier because once you put the module Social Groups on a page you are asked to run the wizard and that does it all for you!

How come you ask this question? What was the latest version of DNN you installed? If you have been using DNN the last year you must have seen that it is all included in the platform.

Wondering....

OK, there were loops to jump through doing this (social functionality) in 6.2
Seeing the presentations and functionality in Evoq social, I assumed (wrongly) that this functionality was now limited in DNNPlatform. I will follow the info from Mariette and Cathal (different thread) and try things in 7.1.x

That aside. I still stand by what I've said about the gap between Platform and Evoq in all aspects.
Just pay careful attentention to what has been said, that's all...

There is a big gap between the free and paid version but I have been long enough in business to understand that a Ferrari is more expensive then a Volkswagen :) I have read this thread 3 times now and the only thing I have to agree on is that the way Active Forums was 'dumped' by Dotnetnuke management was a mistake. They should have offered an elegant upgrade path for those who used AF in the past (I used it until 2010) and IMHO it would fantastic if DNN put more effort in bringing AF to the 'next level'...
