I just upgraded from 7.0.5 to 7.1 (CE) and one of the features I am interested in is the removal of the .ASPX extension. It says that this is the default now for a new installation, but how can I implement this in an upgrade situation?

Open your web.config file and find 'add name="DNNFriendlyUrl"' then change 'urlFormat="humanfriendly"' to 'urlFormat="advanced"'.

Well that's a little too easy. 

Just kidding... thank you. It did the trick!

By the way, is the only option to apply it to the whole DNN instance or is there any way to do it per portal (I don't really need to do this but just curious)?
And, is this using a 301 redirect method when an old link is used to access the page?

The urlProvider Setting is for the complete instance, it could NOT set for each site (Portal).

If aold link not work you should get a 404 error.  I think it depends on what solution or Methode is used to the old link.
