I often encounter pages that are nothing more than nodes to group (sub-)pages with. And I hate filling such pages with some placeholder blah blah, just to fill the empty page. Would it be possible to generate an automated summary/overview of all sub-pages?

I could imagine an custom html module that outputs the full article of just the title and first paragraph, depending on a parameter it is passed. And the parent page displaying all modules of it's children together.

News/blog modules do something similar to this, but they just pull data out of the same database and it only works for it's own items.

And of cource I could manually design the  parent page by just adding the existing modules of the children to the parent page. But this would require updating the parent page every time a child page is changed, moved, removed, or added.

I'm interested in a module that creates it's own summary of all child pages, no matter what kind of content they contain.

Does something like this exist? could it be done?

Yes that can be developed but it would need to know what modules are used on the child pages so that it knows how to obtain the details and how it should be displayed.  It could also just scan the page attempting to make a best guess, but I doubt the attempt will work all of the time.

You could also use Juva with it's "Page Card" menu display.  That won't show the contents on the page but it will show a list of the child pages with descriptions taken from the Page Settings.

To actually show content from the modules on the pages, we would need to list all possible "content" modules that could be used, integrate with them and hope they don't change so that it doesn't break the summary page.

I think either a module that scans the content and pulls it in (like Soma) or something like Juva.

When an unknown module is encountered it could just output the whole content. My own modules could have a 'summary' setting and for the html-module I could easily extract the first paragraph.

It woudl require me to know which sub-pages there are (any menu knows that) and which modules are in the contentPane of those pages. Might be tricky to access this information, although I have good expectations.

The biggest problem might be the performance. The parent page quickly becomes huge.

I'll look into the modules you suggested next week. Thanks.
