How do we get started with making a vanity url using the new features of DNN 7.1?  Do we look in the host settings? Where is the interface for this functionality? Thanks.

For configuration log in as host (or admin) and go to admin->site settings->user account settings.Expand profile settings and you can set whether to redirect "old-style" profile requests, as well as the vanity url prefix. If you change the configuration (or just use the default one), you can see vanity url's working by logging in as a user (not host) and editing their profile and going to manage account. The user can select their vanity text (it will default to their displayname) - when they try to save the system will check that it's an allowable vanity url name, and if so enable it for that account e.g. in my case my "test123" user ends up with localhost/dnn_platform72/users/test123

As a follow-up to Cathal's points... I think you also need to have advanced URLs turned on (though I'm not 100% sure about that) - the advanced URLs aren't turned on by default if you upgrade from an earlier version.
