We have a DNN site that's not performing well, and I noticed on the SQL Profiler that the site is making hundreds of database calls per second to the stored procedure GetListEntry, all with the EntryID 349, which for our database is the DataType for text. The DNN version is 06.02.07.

My question is how do I find out where this is coming from? I'm relatively new to DNN -- is there a good way to track this down to whatever misbehaving module or process is doing this?

Thanks,
Jennifer

I would start disabling all jobs in DNN Host >Scheduler - this should stop activities.
By re-enabling them one by one you should be able to identify the cause of your problem.
Next adjust repeat rate to reduce number of database calls.
Besides, you should check cache level in Host Settings, it should be set to "heavy".

The entry you are referring to is used by the user profile, and would be used on both the registration page, and the view profile page. (most fields are of that type). Are you seeing an unusual amount of requests to either the registration page, or the user profile page (review your IIS logs for that)

Thanks for the feedback! When I first looked at it, it appeared to be happening all the time, but when I checked it out during off hours (when other people weren't connected to the site), it became clear it was a certain number of calls on particular pages (e.g. Admin -> User Accounts and a number of user management pages with our own custom modules). For example, it makes 3649 calls to GetListEntry when it loads the user accounts page.

In any case, I didn't need to mess with the scheduler, but that's a useful tip for future issues... and I also changed caching from moderate to heavy.

We think it has to do with a third-party module we purchased which allows the sharing of users across portals. The module has its own provider for user profiles. We've contacted the vendor and are going to look into upgrading to a new version and see if that solves the problem.
