Greetings,

I am completely stumped with an issue I'm having around showing users that are online.

  • Under Host Settings, I've ensured that showing online users is enabled
  • I've installed the 'UsersOnline' module, and it also never shows online users

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I might try next?

Thanks!

Kevin

are you seeing any exceptions under admin->event viewer. Taking a look at usersonline, I see someone reporting a problem in DNN 6.1 - https://dnnusersonline.codeplex.com/w... . As there hasn't been an update in 4 years I suspect it's simply a broken module. I don't believe there are any plans to update it, but it is a free open-source module so someone could take the code and create a fork (or if they ask for developer access I'm sure I could ask a coordinator on the project to add them)

Well, I believe I've heard of people using it, but maybe not...

I've also used other modules that offer such functionality, but they don't work either, leading me to believe there's a core DNN piece that's breaking.

Thanks for the reply!

actually typically what occurs is that usersonline modules do direct database access to quickly read userdata (i.e. they do not use the correct API's as they're either too slow/don't supply the information they want etc.). When we change the database we automatically make any necessary API changes, but it can mean 3rd parties who are not behaving correctly (on occasion for valid reasons) will break - I recall this happening for usersonline when we moved from 2.12 to 3.0.0. Typically the project will fix this but as this hasn't had a release in 4 years I'm guessing it wont have one in the near future.

Which DNN Version are you running? I have one client running DNN 7.1.2 and users online is working as expected.
