Hi All,

Somewhat new to the DNN world and have hit a strange problem. I'm not sure if this is the correct forum or not but I could use some help. The DNN 7.2 site was up and running correctly in our DEV environment and much of the website had been put together. One of our team made a small change to an HTML container(contents) on the main page and now the entire admin side displays as bulleted list. Nothing I can do seems to fix this including shutting down the web server ETC. This is the second time this has happened. The last time I had to restart from scratch and reinstall everything in order to fix it.This time things are way too far along. The only additional item that may have contributed to the issue was that I created a share to the DNN directory in order to access it with Visual studio and make changes to some of the CSS. The problem seemed to coincide with the other change.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks

Rob

There are a few possibilities e.g. html or script added to the container is causing invalid html markup which is breaking the page rendering or else clashing with an existing javascript (e.g. perhaps they added a direct jquery/jqueryui reference which causes the issue as other elements on the page have already loaded these libraries). Typically you look at this in a tool such as fiddler (for firefox) or by pressing F12 in IE/Chrome and check and see if javascript exceptions are thrown. You can also use these to edit content and see what the changes look like e.g. perhaps clear the new code in the container to see if that resolves it. Note: in general most menu items are bulleted lists - css styles are used to format them to appear different ways, so your most likely culprit is bad markup (perhaps an additional FORM tag or an early closing HEAD or BODY tag)

Hi,

Thanks for your input. As it turns out, this was a permission's issue. Although I had set things up correctly in the beginning it appears that I managed to undo that when I added the share to the directory. I, in effect, overrode the necessary permissions when I added the share permissions.

Regards

Rob
