@Cathal - You were exactly correct.  This problem was related to the Windows 7 Service pack not being applied.  

 

@Richard - Database serving the data is SQL 2012, but my local DB is 2008, so kind of needed to connect to the DB from my localhost, because I could not do the restore.  There is also a lot of ancillary data stored in the database that is site specific and not anything related to DNN specifically, so it is rather large making this method the quickest...usually

thanks for the update - out of interest did installing the service pack fix it or you needed to install the hotfix I provided a list for (I believe the service pack contains the hotfix but it would be good to confirm)

I applied the entire Service Pack 1 for Windows 7.  I had already begun that process based upon some Google posts, when you posted your link to the hotfix.
